The Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Antigua and Barbuda Przemyslaw Häuser-Schöneich met with Monsignor Robert Llanos, Bishop of the Diocese of St. John’s-Basseterre residing in Antigua and Barbuda, and Father Lawrence Malama, administrator of the Holy Family Parish.

During the meeting, the project to rebuild the historic cathedral in Saint John was discussed. The cathedral, built in 1909, was destroyed by an earthquake in 1974. It has not been rebuilt since.

The Embassy of the Order of Malta, in cooperation with Bishop Robert Llanos, has begun the process of rebuilding the cathedral, financing the entire project. The planned completion date is October 2026.

The newly consecrated church will be dedicated to St. John Paul II.
